You don't have to go.
You don't have to contact your recruiter.
You don't have to show up on your ship date.
You can simply walk away, without consequences.
This period before going to basic training is your last chance to decide if you truly want to sign yourself over to the military for the next eight years of your life.
Maybe you've realized you have better options for school or work, or family obligations. Maybe you realized that even if you don't have something else lined up, the military just isn't for you. The good news is you can still walk away, easily and without negative consequences. Simply don't show up on your ship date.
Once you report to MEPS a second time to sign the last page of your contract, you will lose the ability to choose what to do for the next eight years of your life. For the next eight years, you will belong to the military and any attempts to back out of your contract will be costly.
